I had the opportunity of attending the FutureVVorld Pop-Up event: Mission Deadstock. The event was held at, Extra Butter, Lower East Side store, in New York City.
Introduction
FUTUREVVORLD launched its first real world pop-up entitled Mission: Deadstock. A curated collection of vintage sneakers, both worn and unworn; by journalist Jacques Slade’s Reebok Pump “Dee Brown”; Andrew NG of @sneakerpreservationsociety’s Nike Air Icarus; Daniela Buck’s, aka @wideawakeearthquake, And1 Tai Chi; @hartcopy’s Samuel Le Roy and his Nike Zvezdochka; Bernie Gross of Extra Butter’s Converse REACT Aero Jam; fashion entrepreneur Anisa Dash’s New Balance 990v3; artist Sophia Chang’s Reigning Champ x adidas Pure Boost, and more.
What is Deadstock?
Deadstock refers to sneakers that have never been worn. In many cases, a pair is considered deadstock because they were originally samples that never made it to production, or could have been discontinued, and kept in very good shape.
The Mission
"Since the dawn of the blog-age and social media, we’ve watched as this beloved, community-driven sub-culture morph into an over-consuming, self-centered beast, driven by hype and trends. Websites and influencers instruct consumers on what to buy, often based on what may have the most resale or social media value. And, of course, all that purchasing and production has a devastating impact on the planet." ~ FutureVVorld
Remembering The Time
Extra Butter is one of my favorite sneakers and style boutiques in New York. They are always ahead of the trends and hype, and is the perfect location for an event like Mission: Deadstock. I thoroughly enjoyed rediscovering sneakers, like the Nike Air Raids, which I owned in Olive/Black; The Nike Air Pennies, which I fawned over in middle school; and even the Converse Aero Jam, worn by Larry Johnson, officially dubbed, "The Grand Mamas".
Conclusion
The guys at FutureVVorld: Allen and Daniel, were cool to talk to as well. I could really feel their passion for the culture. We passed stories back and forth of sneakers we loved, and I got a better understanding of how a mindful approach toward fashion, could help the future of the world. To further invigorate their mission for sustainability, the team released special limited supply Mission: Deadstock tees, available at the event. The shirts were made of 50% recycled, and 50% organic cotton, with all proceed going to their charitable partners Remake, FABSCRAP, and Housing Works.
All shoes featured in the gallery, available for auction on EBAY, on 07.18.22 at 12pm EST. For further details on purchases any of the shoes, visit FUTUREVVORLD.
