Introduction
"Eau De Space" is a secret aroma, recreated by NASA to help cosmonauts train for entry into low earth orbit. Developed by Steve Pearce, chemist and founder of Omega Ingredients, a company that develops natural ingredients for the food and beverage, cosmetic, and toiletry industries. Pearce was contracted by NASA to recreate the smell in 2008 after his work in If There Ever Was , an art exhibition where he recreated the smell inside the Mir Space Station.
What Does Space Smell Like?

Pearce used his knowledge of flavor and fragrance chemistry, to produce combinations matching astronaut accounts of "spent gun powder, brimstone, fruits and rum", to successfully bring that after spacewalk smell down to earth. After running a successful kickstarter to make the smell public, Eau de Space can now be smelled by all. That is if you care to smell like burning metal and meat. The company's goal with Eau de Space is to increase interest in STEM learning for K-12 students through "experiential education.” At $49 per vial, Eau de Space will help support STEM programs for students - that's science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
