Art New York 2019

Art New York 2019

General Overview of the Show

Art New York is an annual art fair, presented by Art Miami. The fair provides a fresh selection of works by noteworthy artists from the contemporary, modern, post-war, and pop eras. The show treated public and savvy collectors to a delicatessen of paintings, photography, prints, drawings, design, and sculptures by nearly 300 artists represented by 70 international galleries across 50 cities in 18 countries.
The fair kicked off with a lovely, invitation-only VIP Preview for collectors and press, before opening to the public. The location and runtime for Art New York 2019, ran at Pier 94, from Thursday, May 2, 2019, through Sunday, May 5, 2019; during the height of New York’s art and culture season. Here, I’ll be sharing this opportunity I had to experience the highly-anticipated art affair.

Quest for the Holy Grail

In its fifth year, Art New York has earned a healthy reputation as being a fresh alternative for the new and established collector, curator, museum professional, and art world luminary to discover and acquire a carefully-curated, content-rich presentation of investment quality artworks. These works include artists in primary and secondary markets such as KAWS, Takashi Murakami, Willem de Kooning, Shepard Fairey, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Robert Indiana, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Longo, Francisco Masó and many more. Seeing how I have found myself in the middle of a cornucopia of art and culture; I wasted no time in identifying the cool and interesting contemporary galleries, emerging talents, and cutting-edge pieces.

Fantastical Feats

The fair hosted a collection of sculptures and interactive presentations. Some are situated in common nooks and high traffic areas. These complimentary additions to the environment, evoke whimsical radicalism; maintaining a unique voice throughout the space. These mini-monuments could have easily stolen the show, but I found the discovery and engagement with the artists who created them face to face, to be greatly rewarding.

More To Talk About

In Conclusion, Art New York 2019 was an enriching and mentally stimulating experience. I enjoyed the interactive portions of the fair, along with the installation found throughout. I also felt inspired, meeting the different galleries representing various parts of the world, such as Rome, Spain, Panama, London. I also appreciated the time each gallery spent to explain their process and vision behind their most popular pieces. In a later post, I’ll have to discuss in detail which galleries, artists, and iconic works stood out to me the most. In the meantime check out some of the links below or leave a comment on your thoughts about the fair.
