Chase Contemporary unveiled 5 never-before-seen kinetic works by esteemed artist, inventor, & pioneering engineer Chuck Hoberman, for Art New York 2019. Hoberman’s work is a combination of precise mathematics and integration of organic movements inspired by nature. The core vision for Chase Contemporary is to exhibit both blue-chip art as well as work by emerging and mid-level career artists, catering to both the established and beginning collector.

The New Avant-Garde

Chuck Huberman

Chuck Huberman is what I consider, a high-level master in architecture and engineering. His hypnotizing sculptures send a message to the viewer, that objects with the ability to fold, retract or shape-shift have functional benefits. Benefits such as portability, instantaneous opening, and intelligent responsiveness to the built environment; could be applied in the construction of new technological tools and future mechanics.

Ole Aakjær

Chase Contemporary's second best seller, Ole Aakjær exhibited numerous large watercolor and ink on paper pieces. Ole's use of unique colors and cerebral detailing; summon a sense of vulnerability and passionate strength, depicted in each of the women drawn. He does his paintings in a modern atelier for large formats, mostly freehand, with lots of light and a view of the beautiful Vejle Inlet. Chase felt it important to highlight the work of Ole Aakjær, and with good reason.

Natvar Bhavsar

Natvar Bhavsar (b. 1934) is a contemporary American artist of Indian origin. He lives and works in SoHo, New York. Using colors as his medium, Bhavsar style is slow and methodical. From far away, I found it impossible to look away, taking in the rich milky hue of blues and pinks. Upon closer inspection, dots of radioactive green were found, gradually unveiling more intimate aspects of the piece. Bhavsar has been exploring the sensual, emotional, and intellectual resonance of color since the early 1960s. He is considered to be one of the greats and has an impressive catalog.
